Man Arrested on Drugs-Related Offences After A6 Stop in Derry/Londonderry

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on drugs-related offences after police stopped and searched a vehicle on the A6 Glenshane Road in Derry/Londonderry. Police said quantities of Class A, B and C controlled drugs and two mobile phones were seized.

Police are continuing enquiries and have appealed for information about illegal drug use and supply.

Man Arrested Following Glenshane Road Vehicle Stop

A man has been arrested on drugs-related offences in Derry/Londonderry following a police vehicle stop on the Glenshane Road in the early hours of Tuesday, 11 August.

Officers from the Derry City and Strabane District Support Team were carrying out a routine checkpoint on the A6 at around 2am.

They were joined by officers from Strand Road Local Policing Team and the Armed Response Unit.

Police said one of the vehicles stopped was being driven by a man who was wanted in connection with a number of drugs-related offences.

Class A, B and C Drugs Seized

Inspector Pearce said the 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with those offences.

Officers then searched his vehicle and discovered a quantity of Class A, Class B and Class C controlled drugs.

Two mobile phones were also seized during the operation.

The man was further arrested on suspicion of:

• Possession of a Class A controlled drug
• Being concerned in the supply of a Class C controlled drug

Police confirmed that he remained in custody at the time of their statement.

Police Say Enquiries Are Continuing

Inspector Pearce said:

“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to tackling the harm caused by illegal drug use and supply in our communities.”

Police said enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
