Man Extradited From Australia to Face Historic Sexual Offence Charges in Northern Ireland

Man Extradited From Australia Following 2023 Arrest

The man was initially arrested in Victoria in 2023 as part of the extradition proceedings.

Those proceedings concluded with his return to Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

He is expected to appear before Laganside Magistrates’ Court in Belfast on the morning of Thursday, 6 August.

Court proceedings are now active. The allegations against the man have not been proven, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless convicted by a court.

PSNI Says Extradition Shows Commitment to Victims

Sergeant Davey, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s International Policing Unit, said the extradition demonstrated the force’s commitment to locating people wanted for serious alleged offences.

“Today’s extradition demonstrates our commitment to tracking down those wanted for serious offending here in Northern Ireland.”

The officer said the PSNI had worked closely with the UK Home Office and Australian authorities to locate, arrest and return the suspect.

Sergeant Davey added:

“Our message is clear to anyone who has left Northern Ireland to avoid the consequences of their actions. We will relentlessly pursue those that are trying to delay or deny justice to victims of crime.”
