Portglenone businesses offer their ‘comfort facilities’ as part of new Community Toilet Scheme

Several businesses in Portglenone have partnered with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to offer free public toilet access during their opening hours as part of the new Community Toilet Scheme. Visitors can use the facilities without making a purchase, helping improve convenience for residents and tourists in the village.

Portglenone Community Toilet Scheme Launched

Local businesses in Portglenone have joined forces with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to launch a Community Toilet Scheme, giving the public access to clean toilet facilities free of charge during normal business hours.

The initiative allows people visiting the village to use toilet facilities in participating businesses without needing to buy anything, improving accessibility for both residents and visitors.

The scheme complements the existing public toilets available at Portglenone Marina and aims to make the village more welcoming for tourists, shoppers and walkers exploring the area.

Supporting the Local Community

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, welcomed the partnership between the council and businesses along Main Street.

He said the scheme benefits both the public and local businesses.

“I am delighted to promote this new partnership between the council and local Portglenone businesses to actively encourage the public to avail of convenient toilets. These local businesses are offering clean, safe and accessible toilets at no cost.

“This is an appreciated way for local businesses to give something back to their community. They are adding to the existing public conveniences in Portglenone village, found at Portglenone Marina.

“We are supporting the participating businesses through promotion and an annual fee for the provision of their facilities. I have no doubt by being involved in this scheme they will benefit from greater footfall into their premises.”
