Mid Ulster Ladies Inspired at International Women’s Day Event

More than 100 women from across Mid Ulster gathered at the Valley Hotel in Fivemiletown on Wednesday evening for a powerful and uplifting International Women’s Day celebration hosted by Mid Ulster District Council.

The sold-out event brought together local leaders, entrepreneurs and community champions for an evening focused on empowerment, equality and shared success.

Inspiring Voices on the Night

The evening featured a strong line-up of speakers who shared personal stories of resilience, ambition and achievement.

Among them was Olympic-winning rower Rebecca Edwards (BEM OLY) from Caledon, whose journey to sporting success offered a message of determination and belief.

Guests also heard from Grainne McCoy, a well-known radio presenter, events host and content creator with more than 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry.

The event was compered by Carol Doey, who guided the evening’s discussions and celebrations.

Celebrating Progress — and Looking Ahead

Chair of the Council, Councillor Frances Burton, hosted the evening and reflected on the importance of marking International Women’s Day.

She said the event was an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements while recognising that work towards full equality must continue.

She highlighted how communities grow stronger when women support one another by sharing opportunities, encouragement and experience.

Councillor Burton also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to creating an environment where women are empowered to succeed.

Supporting Vital Charities

The event was not only about celebration, but also about giving back.

All funds raised will support:

  • Causeway and Mid Ulster Women’s Aid
  • Marie Curie
  • Hope4U

The evening therefore combined inspiration with meaningful impact across the district.
