Murder Accused Denied Bail in Coleraine

A 33-year-old man accused of the murder of Wayne Reid has been remanded in custody after a failed bail application at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, Darrell Joseph Shaw, who has no fixed abode, appeared in court wearing a grey tracksuit and spoke from the dock. He confirmed that he understood the charge against him.

Post-mortem findings outlined

During the hearing, the court was told that a post-mortem examination found the cause of Mr Reid’s death to be intra-abdominal haemorrhage, caused by a haematoma of the spleen.

The details were outlined as part of the prosecution’s opposition to bail.

Case adjourned

Following submissions, the court refused bail. Mr Shaw was remanded in custody.

The case has now been adjourned and is due to return to court on 16 February.
