Fermanagh and Omagh District Council sensory room provision has expanded with the opening of a brand-new facility at Castle Park Centre in Lisnaskea, designed to support children and adults with sensory processing needs. The thoughtfully designed space provides a welcoming environment where visitors can relax, regulate, and engage their senses safely.

A Calm and Inclusive Space for All Ages

The new sensory room at Castle Park Centre offers a therapeutic retreat for anyone who may need time to decompress or gently explore sensory stimulation. The space balances comfort with interaction, making it suitable for a wide range of needs.

Key features include:

• Large, soft bean bags providing deep pressure input
• Premium cushioned seating for sitting, leaning, or lounging
• A quiet, low-stimulation atmosphere for relaxation

Interactive Elements That Encourage Exploration

For sensory seekers and those who benefit from tactile engagement, the room includes:

• Interactive wall activities to support fine motor skills
• Kinetic wall mounts exploring cause and effectLiquid floor tiles that respond with light and colour to movement

These elements help improve focus while offering a safe, engaging sensory experience.

A Sustainable Approach to Community Facilities

In line with its sustainability goals, 75 percent of the equipment used in the Castle Park sensory room has been repurposed from the Lakeland Forum, which is currently undergoing redevelopment. This ensures valuable resources continue to benefit the community while reducing environmental impact.

This approach reflects the Council’s wider commitment to sustainable, community-focused investment.

Supporting Families Across the District

The Castle Park Centre sensory room joins existing facilities operated by the Council at:

• Omagh Leisure Complex
• Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown

Together, these facilities ensure families across the district have access to essential sensory support spaces.
