Carrickfergus welcomed the festive season with a packed day of entertainment, crafts, live performances, a brand-new Festive Parade, and a spectacular fireworks finale. Santa and the Deputy Mayor officially switched on the Christmas lights, marking the start of Christmas in the town.

Carrickfergus Christmas Lights Switch-On drew crowds at the weekend, filling the town with festive cheer, community spirit, and family-friendly fun. The Carrickfergus Christmas Lights Switch-On event featured entertainment from morning to evening, creating a memorable start to the holiday season for local families.

A Festive Start with Music, Crafts and Sensory Play

The day began with a Civic Carol Service at St Nicholas’ Church, setting a warm and traditional tone. A Quiet Hour of outdoor sensory play provided a calm and inclusive experience before the main festivities got underway.

Throughout the afternoon the town centre came alive with:

  • Face painting stations
  • Christmas craft workshops
  • Live music
  • Walkabout Christmas characters

Performances from Hawthorn Melody Hands, Uplift Performing Arts, Royal Tara Dance Academy, and Studio 86 kept crowds entertained from start to finish.

Brand-New Festive Parade Leads the Celebrations

One of the biggest highlights of this year’s event was the introduction of the Festive Parade, led by Santa and the Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Tyler Hoey. The parade featured Ballyduff Silver Band, pupils from Woodlawn Primary School, and a selection of festive floats, bringing colour, sound, and excitement to the town.

Christmas Market Showcases Local Makers

Adding even more festive charm, the Carrickfergus Christmas Market returned in the High Street Car Park marquee. The market showcased unique, handcrafted Christmas gifts, festive treats, and a selection of local crafters—perfect for shoppers looking to support local businesses this season.

Santa Switches On the Lights

As darkness fell, anticipation grew for the main moment. Santa and the Deputy Mayor took to the stage to officially switch on the Carrickfergus Christmas lights, transforming the town with sparkling displays.

Moments later, a spectacular fireworks finale lit up the sky above the Promenade, bringing the celebrations to a dramatic and colourful close.
