Cadet Sergeant Major Ethan Moore from Larne Detachment has been awarded the prestigious ACCT UK Praiseworthy Award by the Army Cadet Charitable Trust (ACCT UK) for his quick-thinking and heroic CPR intervention during a medical emergency at Ballygalley Castle Hotel.

Celebrating Courage in the Community

Mid and East Antrim Mayor, Councillor Jackson Minford, has honoured Cadet Sergeant Major Ethan Moore from the Larne Detachment, 1st (NI) Battalion Army Cadet Force, with the ACCT UK Praiseworthy Award  from the Army Cadet Charitable Trust (ACCT UK).

The award recognises Ethan’s exceptional bravery and quick action during a critical emergency, where he stepped in to assist a man suffering a heart attack.

A Heroic Act of Compassion

During the incident at Ballygalley Castle Hotel, Ethan’s calm response and effective CPR skills, learned through his Army Cadet Force (ACF) training, proved invaluable. His actions ensured the man received immediate medical care and brought comfort to his family during an incredibly distressing time.

Mayor Minford commended the young cadet, saying:

“It is a privilege to meet and present this award to CSM Moore. His actions were nothing short of heroic.”

Recognition from ACF Leadership

Colonel Sam Donnell, Commandant of the 1st (NI) Battalion ACF, also praised Ethan’s remarkable composure and bravery in the face of trauma, emphasising that his actions reflect the true spirit of the Cadet Force.

Since joining the Larne Detachment in July 2021, Ethan has demonstrated unwavering commitment and leadership. He recently completed First Aid at Work training, serves as the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, and was recognised as the Top Student in the Master Cadet Course at Frimley Park, a testament to his excellence and discipline.

Inspiring Others Through Service

Ethan’s courage continues to inspire both cadets and the wider community, highlighting the life-saving value of first aid skills and the impact young people can have when trained to respond under pressure.

He was joined by his proud family at the Mayor’s Parlour in Carrickfergus Town Hall, where his remarkable achievement was celebrated.
