Support Shannon’s Run for Ataxia: Local Fundraisers to Help Beat a Rare Neurological Disease

When it comes to determination and heart, few stories are as inspiring as Shannon’s journey to the London Marathon 2026.

Shannon works as a live-in family support worker for two incredible young girls who both live with Friedreich’s Ataxia — a rare, inherited neurological condition that gradually affects speech, hearing, vision, coordination, and mobility. Sadly, there’s currently no cure.

“Watching these girls face their condition with such courage and positivity is honestly life changing,” Shannon said. “As they begin to lose the ability to use their legs, I felt I needed to use mine to make a difference.”

Now, she’s using her love for fitness and compassion to raise £5,000 for Ataxia UK, a charity funding research, support services, and awareness for those living with the condition.

So far, Shannon has raised £1,100, but there’s still a long way to go — and she’s inviting the local community to help through two upcoming fundraising events.

Morning Yoga & Sea Swim Fundraiser

Country Line Dancing Night
