Three Arrested Following Two Serious Assaults in Rathfriland

Woman Found Injured in Rathfriland on Sunday Evening

Police launched an investigation after a woman in her 30s was found with facial injuries around 9:10pm on Sunday, 20th July, in the Newry Street area of Rathfriland.

According to Detective Sergeant Stewart, the woman reported that she had been held against her will and assaulted multiple times in a property located on Dromore Street.


Armed Response Officers Discover Second Victim

When officers, including members of the Armed Response Unit, entered the property in Dromore Street, they found a second victim – a man also in his 30s – who had sustained serious facial injuries.

Both the man and the woman were transported to hospital for treatment following the attack.

Three Arrests Made by Detectives

Three individuals have since been arrested in connection with the assaults:

  • A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, and robbery.
  • A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, false imprisonment, and non-fatal strangulation.
  • A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, false imprisonment, and robbery.

All three remain in custody as the investigation continues.


Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Detectives are asking anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour in the Dromore Street area on Sunday to come forward.

They’re especially interested in dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage that could assist the investigation.
