A young boy has tragically died after a hit-and-run road traffic collision involving a scooter and a red Skoda Fabia in Portaferry on Tuesday, 8 July. A 51-year-old man has been arrested, and police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed that a young boy has died following a hit-and-run traffic collision in Portaferry on the night of Tuesday, 8 July 2025.
The fatal incident occurred shortly after 11:00pm in The Strand area, involving a red Skoda Fabia and a scooter. The boy, who was riding the scooter, was taken to hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
A 51-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of a number of related offences and remains in police custody at this time.
Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this tragic incident. Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam or other relevant footage, is urged to contact detectives via 101, quoting reference number 1788 08/07/25.”
The Strand remains closed to traffic as the investigation continues.
