11-Year-Old Boy Dies Following Shankill Road Collision in Belfast

An 11-year-old boy has sadly died after being critically injured in a road traffic collision on the Shankill Road in Belfast.

The incident happened on Saturday evening, 7 March, near the junction with Boundary Street at approximately 7:25pm.

Emergency services attended the scene and the child was taken to hospital in a critical condition. It has now been confirmed that the young boy has tragically passed away following the collision.

Collision Involved Car and Young Pedestrian

Police previously confirmed the collision involved a grey BMW X5 and the young pedestrian.

The Shankill Road was closed for a period of time while emergency services responded and officers carried out initial investigations at the scene.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of offences connected to the incident. He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Detectives investigating the collision are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time and could have dashcam or mobile phone footage that may assist with the investigation.

Community Left Heartbroken

News of the young boy’s death has prompted an outpouring of sympathy across Belfast and beyond.

A message shared locally described the tragedy as “absolutely heart breaking”, sending condolences to the child’s loved ones and the wider community.

The statement read:

“There are no words that can comfort the heartache of his family. All that we can do is stand together as a community and do whatever we can for them with care and compassion.”

Many people have taken to social media to express their support for the boy’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

Investigation Ongoing

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision remain ongoing.
