Police have confirmed that a woman has sadly died following a serious road traffic collision on the Portaferry Road earlier today, Friday 25th April.
Inspector Cherith Adair from the Collision Investigation Unit said:
“Police received a report shortly after 10:20am this morning that a red lorry, travelling towards Greyabbey, was involved in a collision with a silver Citroen Berlingo people carrier and a white Audi A3, both travelling towards Newtownards.”
Emergency services, including police, ambulance and fire crews, rushed to the scene.
Tragically, a female passenger in the Citroen Berlingo, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Eight others – three men, two women, and three children – were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The Portaferry Road remains closed as Collision Investigation Unit officers conduct a full examination of the scene.
Inspector Adair added:
“Our detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision. We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash-cam or other footage, to contact police.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference CW 422 25/04/25, or to submit details online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport.
