Woman Dies Following Serious Collision on Portaferry Road

Police have confirmed that a woman has sadly died following a serious road traffic collision on the Portaferry Road earlier today, Friday 25th April.

Inspector Cherith Adair from the Collision Investigation Unit said:
“Police received a report shortly after 10:20am this morning that a red lorry, travelling towards Greyabbey, was involved in a collision with a silver Citroen Berlingo people carrier and a white Audi A3, both travelling towards Newtownards.”

Emergency services, including police, ambulance and fire crews, rushed to the scene.

Tragically, a female passenger in the Citroen Berlingo, aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Eight others – three men, two women, and three children – were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The Portaferry Road remains closed as Collision Investigation Unit officers conduct a full examination of the scene.

Inspector Adair added:
“Our detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision. We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash-cam or other footage, to contact police.”
