Two teenage boys have been charged with attempted rape following a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Ballymena on 7 June. The incident occurred in the Clonavon Terrace area. Both boys are due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday 9 June.


Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have charged two teenage boys in connection with a serious sexual assault that took place in Ballymena on the evening of Saturday, 7 June 2025.

The incident occurred in the Clonavon Terrace area of the town, where a teenage girl was reportedly subjected to a violent attack.

Both accused have been charged with attempted rape and are due to appear before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, 9 June.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed the charges and added that, as per standard procedure, the case has been submitted to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) for review.


Ongoing Investigation

The police have not released further details due to the sensitivity of the case and the ages of those involved. The incident has shocked the local community and has prompted an increase in police visibility in the area.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information relating to the case to come forward. The PSNI has reiterated its commitment to tackling sexual violence and ensuring justice for victims.
