Two men arrested by police in connection with early morning south Belfast robbery at ATM

Two men have been arrested after officers on routine patrol intercepted an early morning robbery in south Belfast.

Inspector Carey said: “Officers were patrolling the Upper Arthur Street area shortly before 12.15am this morning, Saturday 11th May, when they witnessed two men assaulting a third man.

“It was alleged the victim, aged in his 20s, was assaulted by the two men as he was using an ATM in the area.

“He sustained a cut to his head and swelling to his cheek as a result of the attack. His phone and other items were also stolen.

“One of the suspects was detained by officers at the scene, whilst the other made off towards the City Hall area.

“He was stopped a short time later. The men, aged 30 and 21, were both arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and robbery.

“They remain in custody at this time as enquiries continue.

“I would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist with our investigation or has CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference 21 11/05/24.”
