More than 500 students in Carrickfergus experienced the hard-hitting and emotional ‘Roadsafe Roadshow’ today, a powerful event designed to educate young drivers about the real dangers of the road.

Organised by the PSNI’s Road Policing Unit, in partnership with AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, the roadshow aims to highlight the risks young drivers face and encourage them to make safer choices behind the wheel.

A Stark Reminder for Young Drivers

Statistically, drivers aged 25 and under are among those most at risk of being killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions. The ‘Roadsafe Roadshow’ delivers an unforgettable message to those about to start their motoring journey, ensuring they understand the potential consequences of reckless driving.

A Real-Life Perspective on Road Tragedies

The roadshow, which has already been seen by tens of thousands of teenagers across Northern Ireland, presents a graphic and emotional account of how an ordinary night out can end in devastation. The story is shared through the voices of:

  • A police officer who has witnessed road traffic collisions firsthand
  • A paramedic and a fire officer who respond to emergencies
  • An A&E consultant who deals with the aftermath of serious crashes
  • A young man who was jailed after causing a serious collision
  • A survivor who was left paralysed following a horrific crash

Each speaker brings a real-life perspective, making the dangers of reckless driving impossible to ignore.

A Community Effort for Road Safety

A huge thank you goes to the schools that brought their pupils, Carrickfergus Amphitheatre for hosting the event, and everyone involved in delivering this crucial message.

The ‘Roadsafe Roadshow’ continues to be an essential educational tool, helping to shape the next generation of drivers and ensure they make the right choices when getting behind the wheel.
