Phoebe’s Christmas Appeal Returns to Bring Christmas Joy to Local Care Homes

Phoebe’s Christmas Appeal is returning this year with an even bigger goal: to bring joy, comfort, and kindness to elderly residents across at least four local care homes. The initiative began after Phoebe’s great-granda, Sammy Calder, was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, inspiring her to support others facing loneliness during the festive season.

Why Phoebe Started the Christmas Appeal

The story behind Phoebes Christmas Appeal is deeply personal. Early last year, Phoebe’s great-granda Sammy received his dementia diagnosis, prompting the family to understand the condition and its challenges.

Phoebe explained that she was fortunate to see Sammy every day, but she soon realised many older people do not have that same support system. Many live in care homes without regular visits or family contact.

She said her goal is simple: to brighten Christmas for those who may otherwise feel forgotten.

Honouring Her Great-Granda Sammy

Phoebe’s great-granda, Sammy Calder, passed away in February, but his kindness continues to inspire her.

Phoebe shared that if there was one thing Sammy wanted for her future, it was to be kind to others. The appeal is her way of honouring his memory and making a meaningful difference.

Last year’s campaign made a remarkable impact, and Phoebe says she is “forever grateful” to everyone who supported it.

A Bigger Goal for Christmas 2025

This year, Phoebes Christmas Appeal aims to reach at least four care homes, and with growing community support, she believes they will achieve even more.

Phoebe encourages people to donate because many elderly residents do not get the opportunity to socialise or spend time with family. A simple gift can brighten their entire day.

She also hopes the appeal helps highlight a wider issue: elderly isolation. Many older people quietly struggle, and community support can make a big difference.
