Omagh’s architectural story will take centre stage this January as Strule Arts Centre hosts a special illustrated talk celebrating the town’s built heritage.
Titled Omagh’s Built Heritage – A Visual Journey, the event takes place on Thursday 29 January 2026 at 7.00pm, with tickets priced at £3.50.
Presented by Omagh Heritage Forum, the talk will feature a curated collection of digital photographs showcasing some of Omagh’s most recognisable buildings and landmarks.
Attendees will be guided through the stories behind these familiar structures, exploring how they have shaped the town’s identity, community life, and development over generations.
Audience participation is a key part of the evening. Visitors are encouraged to share their own memories and reflections on how Omagh has changed over time, helping to build a collective picture of the town’s living heritage.
Speaking ahead of the event, Vincent Brogan of Omagh Heritage Forum said the talk is about seeing familiar places in a new way, appreciating their character, and recognising the people connected to them. He noted that shared memories play a vital role in understanding local identity and history.
Cllr Barry McElduff, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, highlighted the importance of events like this in protecting and celebrating local heritage.
He said they help people connect with their local area, learn from one another, and ensure Omagh’s history is preserved for future generations. The event also supports the Council’s new Heritage Plan 2030, which aims to strengthen heritage engagement across the district.
The January talk forms part of a wider programme of heritage events planned for Omagh this spring, including:

Dr Jonny Hamill explores historic hotels such as the Royal Arms and the White Hart, examining their influence on café culture, commerce, and community life.
