David Orr, an asbestos worker from Banbridge, County Down, faced a bizarre set of charges at Lisburn Magistrates Court following a public indecency incident and an altercation with police. According to reports, Orr was discovered walking naked along Laganbank Road in Lisburn in the early hours, allegedly under the influence of magic mushrooms. When approached by police, Orr became aggressive, leading to a physical struggle where he reportedly bit an officer’s finger and caused injury to another.

Orr faced charges of causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer, assaulting police, and engaging in disorderly behaviour. Additionally, separate charges were levelled for disorderly behaviour, resisting police, criminal damage, and possession of a class A drug, allegedly committed on St Patrick’s Day.

Despite objections from the police regarding concerns about Orr’s potential for further offenses, District Judge Eamon King granted bail. Orr was released on his own bail of £350 with strict conditions, including abstaining from alcohol and drugs, staying out of Lisburn, observing a curfew, and facing remand if any conditions were breached.

This case has drawn significant public interest due to its unusual nature and the questions it raises about the effects of substance use on behaviour. Orr’s future court appearances are likely to attract further attention.
