Police in Belfast have confirmed that a 37-year-old man has been charged as part of an investigation into alleged vigilante behaviour in the east of the city.
The man faces charges of:
He is scheduled to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 16th September.
As is standard practice, the case will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) to determine the next steps.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) launched the investigation after reports of individuals allegedly taking the law into their own hands in the area.
While one man has now been charged, officers continue to gather evidence and have appealed for any further information from the public.
The man will appear in court in September, where the charges of assault and theft will be considered. The PPS will then decide whether the prosecution proceeds.
The PSNI have reminded the public that anyone with concerns should contact police directly rather than attempting to intervene themselves.
