Mahoods Taxis Joins fonaCAB as Service Expands in Carrickfergus

Mahoods Taxis has officially become part of fonaCAB from 6 January. The move secures the future of local drivers, expands services in Carrickfergus, and gives passengers access to a larger fleet and improved booking options.

Mahoods Taxis has confirmed that, from today (6 January), the long-established local taxi firm is now part of fonaCAB, one of Northern Ireland’s largest private hire operators.

The decision follows an approach by the owners of Mahoods Taxis to fonaCAB to explore a potential purchase. They said running a taxi business requires significant time and resources, and the move was seen as the right opportunity to allow new owners to take the company forward.

As a sign of confidence in the transition, the existing owners will continue working as drivers with fonaCAB in the local area for the foreseeable future.

Expansion of Services in Carrickfergus

For fonaCAB, the acquisition provides an opportunity to expand its presence into the Carrickfergus area, offering local passengers access to a larger fleet and an enhanced range of services.

Customers can expect to see many familiar drivers and staff continuing to operate locally, with all Mahoods drivers and staff offered the opportunity to move across to fonaCAB.

While many of the vehicles will remain the same, passengers will notice fonaCAB branding, including roof signs and uniforms worn by drivers.

Booking Changes for Customers

Passengers can continue to book taxis using the existing Mahoods telephone numbers or by calling fonaCAB directly on 02890 333 333.

The Mahoods app will be discontinued, and customers are advised to download the fonaCAB app from their usual app store to continue booking digitally.

Business Accounts to Transfer

Businesses with existing Mahoods accounts will be contacted directly by fonaCAB. The company will assist with setting up new accounts, which will include additional features and improved ways to book and manage journeys.

Reassurance to Customers

The owners acknowledged that the change may come as a surprise to many loyal customers. However, they stressed that the move is intended to secure the long-term future of drivers and ensure the continued provision of a professional taxi service in the Carrickfergus area.

In a joint statement, Andy, Simon, Gillian and Jim thanked customers for their years of support and said they are confident passengers will be “in safe hands” with fonaCAB going forward.
