TL;DR:
A Belfast judge has ruled that Jamie Love will stand trial for the murder of his partner, Kathryn “Kat” Parton, while his mother, Suzanne Love, and Reece Oliver face charges of assisting an offender.

Belfast Man to Stand Trial Over Partner’s Death

A 24-year-old Belfast man is to face trial accused of killing his partner, Kathryn “Kat” Parton, in a violent assault at their home in east Belfast.

Jamie Love is charged with murder following the discovery of Ms Parton’s body in a blood-stained bedroom on Madrid Street in May 2024. A post-mortem examination revealed she died from haemorrhaging, scalp lacerations, and nasal fractures after a sustained head assault involving no weapons.

Police believe the 34-year-old victim lay undiscovered for six days before being found by her father.

Charges Against All Three Defendants

At Belfast Magistrates’ Court, a judge determined that Love, his 44-year-old mother Suzanne Love, and 23-year-old Reece Oliver all have cases to answer.

Jamie Love’s Charges

  • Murder of Kathryn Parton
  • Non-fatal strangulation
  • Common assault
  • Causing unnecessary suffering to a pet dog

Prosecution evidence includes CCTV footage and witness testimony linking him to the crime.

Suzanne Love’s Charges

  • Assisting an offender
  • Perverting the course of justice

She is accused of helping clean the scene, removing evidence, and aiding her son’s escape, including arranging alternative accommodation.

Reece Oliver’s Charges

  • Assisting an offender

He allegedly drove Suzanne Love to the property to help her son move out, then travelled with him to B&Bs in Strabane and Portaferry.

Evidence Presented

Investigators found two bloodied footprints on a duvet near Ms Parton’s body — one matching Ugg boots similar to those worn by Suzanne Love, and another consistent with Nike trainers worn by Jamie Love. Both types of footwear were later recovered from Suzanne Love’s home, freshly washed and drying outside.

Police allege this evidence places more than one person at the scene either during or after the fatal assault.

Initially, Suzanne Love denied any knowledge of the death. Later, she told police she helped her son pack and leave after a dispute with Ms Parton.

Court Proceedings

  • Court: Belfast Magistrates’ Court
  • Hearing type: Preliminary enquiry
  • Attendance: Oliver appeared in person on bail; Jamie and Suzanne Love appeared remotely from custody.
  • Outcome: Judge ruled there is a prima facie case against all three; no defence evidence presented at this stage.

The case will now proceed to trial, where all defendants will face the charges in full.
