A spacious new kickaround area has been developed in Glynn offering exceptional outdoor facilities for local residents.
Work was carried out by E Quinns Civils Ltd. to deliver the highly anticipated brand-new space.
The project – costing £305K – has been funded by the Department for Communities (DfC), the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, as part of the COVID Recovery Small Settlements Regeneration Programme.
The Kickabout area consists of a 36m x 27m MUGA (polymeric surface) which is located within the grass pitch area – adjacent to the existing shale pitch. Works include flood lighting, ball-stop fencing, bitmac surfaced access pathways (leading from the new MUGA), street furniture and soft landscaped areas.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Beth Adger MBE, is delighted with the outcome and said: “I’m sure everyone will agree that these up-to-date facilities are a fantastic asset for the village of Glynn and its surrounding area. The health and wellbeing of our young people is paramount and this new kickabout area will help them enjoy physical exercise and the benefits it brings – in a safe and friendly environment all year round.”
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons MLA added: “I welcome the opening of this new facility. I have no doubt these improved amenities are a vital asset for our residents in and around Glynn and will benefit and encourage more young people to participate in sport activities. The completion of this scheme – as part of the COVID Recovery Small Settlements Programme – demonstrates further evidence of how collaboration between my Department and colleagues in both DAERA and Council can deliver benefits for all.”
Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Andrew Muir MLA said: “I am delighted that my Department has been able to make a positive contribution to this project with funding provided through the Covid Recovery Small Settlements Regeneration Programme. The kickaround area in Glynn will play a vital role in supporting both the physical and mental health and wellbeing of young people in the community through active play and social interaction”.
