Elderly Woman Tragically Dies in Carrickfergus House Fire

CARRICKFERGUS, 12 June 2025 – Police have confirmed the death of a woman in her 70s following a house fire in the Queen Street area of Carrickfergus on Monday, 9th June.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3:15pm, where crews from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service worked to extinguish the blaze. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, a PSNI spokesperson said to Belfast telegraph:

“Police can confirm that a woman aged in her 70s died following a fire at a house in the Queen Street area of Carrickfergus on Monday, 9th June.
Police received a report of the fire at approximately 3.15pm, and attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services.
Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the fire but, sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are conducting enquiries into the fire. At this stage, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and police are continuing to make enquiries.

This tragic incident has shocked the local community, with tributes expected to follow in the coming days.
