Coalisland officially kicked off the festive season with a lively Christmas Lights Switch On at the Cornmill. Despite the rain, families enjoyed music, face painting, walkabout characters, and a visit from Santa before the town was illuminated for Christmas.

Coalisland Lights Up for Christmas

Coalisland Christmas Lights Switch On brought the community together on Sunday 30 November for a festive celebration filled with music, family activities, and Christmas cheer. The Coalisland Christmas Lights Switch On event, organised by Mid Ulster District Council, proved that not even heavy rain could dampen the holiday spirit.

Festive Fun at the Cornmill

From 5pm to 7pm, the Cornmill in the town centre was transformed into a hub of festive activity. Families gathered to enjoy an evening of live entertainment and seasonal attractions.

Highlights included:

  • Christmas music live on stage
  • Face painting for children
  • Walkabout festive characters
  • A chance to meet Santa in his cosy grotto

The early portion of the evening (5pm to 6.30pm) offered plenty for families to enjoy, setting a warm and welcoming atmosphere despite the weather.

Entertainment from Craic Theatre

The talented performers from Craic Theatre took to the stage and delighted the crowd with festive entertainment. Their performance helped build anticipation ahead of the big moment.

The Big Switch On

Just before 7pm, Santa was joined by Councillor John McNamee, Chair of the Council’s Development Committee. Together, they led the countdown to light up Coalisland for the Christmas season.

When the switch was flicked, the town and its impressive Christmas tree were illuminated, bringing festive magic to the heart of the community.

A Night to Remember

The event was a resounding success, with families and visitors agreeing it was a fabulous, fun, and festive evening for all ages.
