Irish Guards Celebrate 125 Years in Carrickfergus

Carrickfergus is set to welcome the world-famous Irish Guards as they mark their 125th anniversary with a special public parade and musical marching display on Thursday 4 September 2025.

The celebration runs from 4pm to 5pm, beginning at Carrickfergus Town Hall and concluding at Castle Car Park, with the historic Carrickfergus Castle providing a dramatic backdrop.

A Tradition of Pageantry and Service

The Irish Guards, one of the most distinguished regiments of the British Army, are globally recognised for their ceremonial role in London’s State occasions, including the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and the King’s Birthday Parade.

Founded by Queen Victoria in 1900, the regiment has served with distinction across the world, from the World Wars to modern conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Known affectionately as “the Micks”, they wear the distinctive St Patrick’s Blue plume in their bearskin headdress.

What to Expect on the Day

The event promises a world-class display of music and military drill, featuring:

  • The Irish Guards Regimental Band
  • The Pipe Band
  • The Regimental Colour Party
  • A full Ceremonial Guard of Honour
  • The much-loved Irish Guards Wolfhound Mascot, Seamus

This free event is open to all, but donations to the Irish Guards Charity (Registered Charity No. 1194198) are encouraged to support serving soldiers, veterans, and their families. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/charity/irish-guards.
