In Carrickfergus, David Mark Hilditch, a man with a history of violence, has been sentenced to four years in prison for his involvement in a domestic incident. The altercation, which took place on February 4, 2023, included Hilditch assaulting his ex-partner, causing damage to her property, and making threats against her and her pets. Police were called to the scene at Woodburn Avenue, where they found the victim’s uncle with a knife wound to his hand.

According to the uncle’s account, he confronted Hilditch, who then proceeded to stab him. While the uncle believed Hilditch had attempted to stab him in the stomach as well, he sustained injuries only to his hand. Hilditch was later apprehended in Ballycarry and arrested. During questioning by the police, he remained mostly silent.

In court, Judge Gordon Kerr KC highlighted Hilditch’s extensive criminal record, which included previous violent offenses. He emphasized that the February 2023 incident was further exacerbated by domestic abuse. Hilditch’s defense attributed his actions to a history of depression, anxiety, and issues with alcohol.

Judge Kerr characterized the offenses as “serious” and sentenced Hilditch to two years in prison followed by two years on license. Additionally, a seven-year restraining order was imposed, prohibiting Hilditch from contacting his ex-partner. The judge’s decision reflects the severity of the incident and aims to ensure the safety and well-being of the victim.
