Arrest Made in Connection with Attempted Murder of DCI and Hoax Security Alert in Derry/Londonderry

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of DCI John Caldwell on 22nd February 2023. Detectives made the arrest under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 after searching a property in the Londonderry area. The arrest is linked to a claim of responsibility made following the attack.

In addition to the attempted murder investigation, the man has also been arrested in connection with a hoax security alert that took place last month on Lone Moor Road in Derry/Londonderry. A suspicious object was discovered in the middle of the road, close to Celtic Court, causing significant disruption for local residents and football fans arriving for the Derry City v Shamrock Rovers game.

The suspect is currently being questioned by detectives at Musgrave Serious Crime Suite.
