A heartwarming rendition of the Pogues’ iconic Christmas single, ‘Fairytale of New York,’ by students at Holy Trinity College in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, has captured the hearts of viewers and gone viral on social media.

Released last Wednesday, just days after the funeral of Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan, the cover has garnered widespread acclaim. In an accompanying caption, Holy Trinity College expressed their Christmas wishes and invited viewers to appreciate the talent of their students by liking and sharing the video.

The video has quickly gained traction, amassing over 65,000 views since its release. Vice President of Sinn Féin, Michelle O’Neill, also shared the video on social media, praising it as “an amazing tribute to the late Shane MacGowan by the pupils and staff at Holy Trinity College, Cookstown.”

The heartfelt tribute has resonated with viewers, with one person describing it as “absolutely incredible stuff” and commending the talented students. Others praised the vocal and instrumental performances, expressing their delight at the beautiful tribute.

Holy Trinity College responded to the overwhelming support, acknowledging that their video had made the news and expressing gratitude to everyone who liked, commented, and shared. The school’s message conveyed the students’ joy in creating musical sessions and hinted at more to come.

As the cover continues to circulate on various platforms, it serves as a testament to the enduring impact of Shane MacGowan’s musical legacy and the power of heartfelt tributes in spreading joy during the holiday season.

This heartening initiative by Holy Trinity College exemplifies the ability of music to bring communities together, transcending boundaries and creating connections that resonate far beyond the school’s walls.
