The centenary of Ballymena War Memorial was marked with a unique performance event in the Braid last week – where the story of the first wreath laid in 1924 by four boys who had lost their fathers was portrayed in music, song, poetry and prose by local musicians and readers.
The story of the Colgan, Nicholl and Semple families was central to the “Wreath of Remembrance” performance written by historian Dr. David Hume and many family members were in the audience. The Mayor, Alderman Beth Adger MBE, also welcomed Andrew Frazer, Deputy Lieutenant for County Antrim to the event.
Two local elected representatives, Cllr. Robin Stewart and Cllr. Matthew Warwick, were included among the readers for the event, while members of Antrim and Derry Country Fiddlers Association, the Seven Towers Male Voice Choir, La Petite Duet, and a bugler from the Royal Irish Regiment added to the occasion.
