Police are investigating a robbery that occurred on Tuesday evening at an off-licence store in Newtownabbey. According to reports, a man armed with a spray that he claimed was acid entered the store and demanded money from the staff. He then tried to tie the employee’s hands together with a cable tie before running off with a bag containing cash. Detective Sergeant Lyttle said that while no injuries were reported, the experience must have been “frightening” for the staff member. The suspect is described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, overweight, and in his late 40s or early 50s.
Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact police at 101, quoting reference number 1579 of 03/01/23. Dash-cam or CCTV footage may be especially helpful.
