The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said on Wednesday that it has “started disciplinary processes” against actor Will Smith over his actions at Sunday’s Oscars.
“Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behaviour, and compromising the integrity of the Academy,”
The Oscars’ announced in a statement.
Will Smith was also asked to leave the event following the incident, according to the statement, but “refused.”
The Academy also said it recognizes “we could have handled the situation differently.”
