On Saturday, March 19, a Carrickfergus family was honoured with the erection of a memorial in the town, honouring their remarkable service record during WWII.
Because seven members of the McAtamney family served in the military during the second world war, they were dubbed “The Fighting McAtamneys.”
This is most likely a first for any Northern Irish family.
In the Joymount memorial gardens, the family was honoured with a memorial plinth.
The memorial was unveiled by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim and members of the family, while the Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim, David McCorkell, spoke to those in attendance.
