Following a recent diagnosis of aphasia, Bruce Willis’ family has revealed that the actor will be retiring from the industry.
The brain disorder affects a person’s capacity to communicate, both verbally and in writing, as well as their ability to understand verbal and written language.
The syndrome usually develops unexpectedly after a brain injury or a stroke. In Willis’ situation, neither has been reported, although details are scarce at the moment.
Rumer Willis issued a statement announcing the terrible news, which read:
“As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.
“This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support.
“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.
“As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
The actor is currently involved in nine upcoming projects, all of which are in varying phases of development, and it is unclear how they will be affected.
