Detectives from Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have welcomed the sentence handed down to 35 year old Sarunas Nauburaitis for the murder of 44 year old Maris Ludborzs.  On Saturday 23rd May 2020 police discovered the body of Maris in the kitchen of Nauburaitis’s home address in Belfast.

At Belfast Crown Court today, Thursday 7th October 2021, Sarunas Nauburaitis was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment after having pleaded guilty to murder and connected fraud offences.

Detective Inspector Darren McCracken said: “Today my thoughts are very much with Maris’s family, especially his elderly mother and his daughter. Maris was subjected to an brutal and sustained attack by Sarunas in Sarunas’s home, resulting in his death.”

Detective Inspector Darren McCracken concluded: “Whilst I know that nothing will ease the heartache that Maris’s family are feeling I hope this sentencing will bring some sort of closure to them, knowing that Nauburaitis is now serving 18 years in prison.”
